Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about growing your tuition business, or securing quality learning for your child, on Oddijo.
Getting started
What is Oddijo, and how much does it cost for teachers?
Oddijo is a mobile-first “school-in-a-box” for independent tutors and teachers: classes, live lessons, AI lesson aids, payments and progress reports in one app. It is 100% free for teachers. Oddijo’s service fee is paid by parents on top of your rate, so you receive your fees in full.
Can I join now?
Oddijo is in a closed alpha with a small group of invited teachers. Tap Get the Android app and leave your details, and we will let you know as soon as it opens to more teachers.
How do I sign up and get verified?
Sign in with Google, Facebook or any email address (we email you a one-time code). Then add your TSC (Teachers Service Commission) number, WhatsApp number, the subjects and grade levels you teach, and your M‑Pesa number for payouts. You also choose the name students and parents will see. Oddijo checks your TSC registration before unlocking full access.
What do I need to teach on Oddijo?
An Android phone with an internet connection. You plan, teach live video lessons, share documents and get paid, all from the app.
Classes & lessons
How do I invite students?
Create a class, schedule its lessons and send the invite link from inside the class, usually on WhatsApp. The parent sees the full price, registers and pays with M‑Pesa, and the student joins your class straight away. There are no approvals to chase.
Can I teach one-to-one as well as groups?
Yes. Create a group class, or invite a single student for one-to-one tutoring at your own rate.
What if a student has not paid?
Only paid-up students can attend class. Oddijo sends payment reminders to parents for upcoming lessons, so you never have to chase fees yourself.
How does the AI lesson planner work?
Write a lesson plan with the topic, grade, subject and objectives, or snap a photo of your written notes. Oddijo turns it into a lesson aid: a slide deck and a printable handout, saved as drafts so you can review and edit them before sharing with your class.
What happens after each lesson?
Your earnings are credited, any documents you chose to share after class are sent, and a short quiz based on the lesson goes to the students who attended.
Earnings
How and when do I get paid?
Parents pay upfront and the money is held in escrow. After each lesson, Oddijo checks the actual lesson time and moves your earnings to your balance. Withdraw to M‑Pesa at any time with a one-time code, and download statements whenever you need them.
Is there a referral bonus for inviting fellow teachers?
Yes! Receive KES 100 for every new teacher you refer who signs up and completes their first class on Oddijo.
Registering & paying
How do I register my child?
Open the invite link your teacher sent you. You will see the class and the full price first, then register your child and pay with M‑Pesa in about two minutes. Your child is added to the class once payment is confirmed.
What will I pay?
The teacher’s hourly rate plus an Oddijo service fee. The total is shown before you register, so there are no surprises. You pay before lessons, and we remind you on WhatsApp when the next payment is due.
How is my payment protected?
Your payment is held in escrow until after the class. Oddijo audits every class and pays the teacher only for the actual lesson time. If a lesson fails because of Oddijo, you are not charged. You receive confirmations and receipts on WhatsApp.
Lessons & progress
How does my child join lessons?
After you register you get your child’s sign-in details. Your child uses the Oddijo Study Buddy app on Android or on the web to join live lessons, see their timetable, take quizzes and ask questions about their lessons. Only paid-up students can attend class.
How can I track my child’s learning?
You receive weekly progress reports on WhatsApp showing attendance and quiz results.
Safety & support
How does Oddijo verify teachers?
Every teacher goes through mandatory verification, including a check of their official TSC (Teachers Service Commission) registration.
How is my child’s privacy and safety protected?
Oddijo does not allow unmonitored direct messaging between teachers and students, and handles personal data under Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019.
What if I have a problem with a lesson?
